Polar Bear Plunge

So today I did a Polar Bear Plunge for all those who didn't know. Its where a whole bunch of crazies run out into freezing cold water. Today's event was for charity. The money raised went towards the special olympics. I personally raised 155 dollars. Thanks to all that pledged for me! As for the event. It was fun times. I've never done anything like it so I was a little nervous looking out to the 33 degree water. They had to plow a hole in the ice wall on the beach for us to plunge into.

So there we were. Two waves of people standing at the edge of the icy beach. Fortunately I was in the second wave. Granted it was a little nerve wrecking to watch the first wave go and come out, but on the bright side I didn't have to hang around on the beach in freezing cold clothes after my plunge. Well the first wave runs in. They all dive in, splash around, chase the safety divers and such. Then the second wave lines up. They start the count down and then we're off.

I hit the water and keep on running till I'm about waist deep. This is about when the cold starts to set in but I dive for it anyways. After fully submercing you kind tense up. Its so cold that it doesn't really feel cold in a normal sense. Then we all run out of the water. The passing pieces of ice floatin around remind me just how cold the water was as I walked out. Really it was more exciting than anything. The cold really wasn't that bad. Just walking back up the beach in freezing shoes. It was also funny how the 31 degree weather felt quite warm afterwards.

Anyways that was my fun for the weekend.
